In this eighth art work of the “Divan” series, the yellow divan on a platform that looks out into the void represents the uncertainty and ambiguity of our deepest fears. The blue, purple and green haze background creates a mysterious and unnerving atmosphere. On the yellow couch, a being dressed in a very elegant blue suit, with an aged or alien face, represents the central figure who faces his fears. To the left of him, a strange horned being holds a large fork, symbolizing the idea that we often face our fears as if we are about to be devoured by them. Next to him, an aged being dressed in red with light green hair and another similar being dressed in a deeper red suggest the diversity of our concerns and fears. In the center, a light green umbrella represents the need for protection against our anxieties. On either side of the daybed, three strange flying bugs add an element of surrealism, reminding us that our fears can take unexpected and disconcerting forms.
